Larry Bourk
Larry brings a diverse array of skills to his position as a TEC Chair, with his profound understanding of the leadership and governance issues involved in owning and growing a successful business. He has been recognized for his leadership capabilities in industry, professional and community organizations and in roles ranging from advisor/consultant to CEO.
As an entrepreneur who has successfully established and expanded multiple businesses over the past 40 years, Larry offers meaningful expertise to the TEC community. He is currently Principal and Chairman of a management consulting firm he started in 1977 – Beemont Management Limited. Additionally, Larry is the founding President and CEO of Just Like Home® Senior Residences Inc., a company that develops residential communities for seniors. Earlier in his career, he owned and operated a national life insurance company from its start-up in 1969 to its maturity in 1994 when it was sold to Sun Life Insurance Company.
Following graduation from university, Larry worked in human resources and labour relations for a national consumer products manufacturer, followed by management consultancy roles with a Canadian chartered bank and an international accounting firm.
Throughout his career, Larry has also been active with a variety of community and non-profit organizations, including the University of Victoria where he was a member of the Board of Regents from 1985 to 1989 and Chairman of the Investment Committee from 1987 to 1989. He also served as Director of the Kitchener Waterloo Symphony Orchestra Association from 1989 to 1995 and as President in 1994/95. Larry was also Director and Past President of the Personnel Association of Toronto, which founded the Human Resources Professionals Association.
Larry has an accomplished educational background that includes a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Alberta with additional post-graduate education from York University and the University of Toronto, as well as a diploma in business from Harvard Business School.
Larry and his wife Joan have three married children who live and work in Southwestern Ontario.
