The following is a list of questions that you - our chairs, TEC, KEY and TRT members - have asked us about the recently launched Best Doctors program. These Q&As are important because they dial in on specific information about your coverage.

We want to serve you with information that is best-suited to you as a member of the TEC community. If you have a question that we currently are not featuring below, please e-mail   us. We will update this list frequently with all incoming inquiries, doing our best to give you a well-rounded understanding of your Best Doctors membership.




What are the services offered by Best Doctors?

INTERCONSULTATION™
The Best Doctors InterConsultation is an in-depth review of your medical files by Best Doctors world-renowned specialists to provide medical opinions and treatment plan options, without you having to leave home. Read more

FINDBESTDOC™
Sometimes the medical care required for a specific diagnosis goes beyond borders. That’s when Best Doctors' exclusive global database of more than 50,000 specialists proves to be an invaluable resource for you, your physician and your family. 

Your Member Advocate will ask what is most important to you. Is it geographic location, the cost or availability of a specialist? 

Best Doctors will conduct a search based on your answers. Read more

FINDBESTCARE®
 If you decide that you are going to be treated by a physician identified by Best Doctors, FindBestCare helps take the worry out of making travel arrangements for you and your family, reducing stress so you can concentrate on getting well again.

The FindBestCare program includes a full concierge service to help make all arrangements such as booking airfare, hotel accommodations, ground transportation, translation services, medical appointments, hospital admissions, etc.(Members are responsible for all costs related to treatment, travel and lodging.) What if I have a family member who is not my spouse or child(ren) who falls ill, like a parent or cousin, etc...? Will they qualify under my TEC Canada Best Doctors plan? If not, can I add family members to my TEC Canada plan?

Best Doctors membership is only available to TEC, KEY & TRT members, their spouse and dependent children under the age of 18 or age 25 if they are full time students. Extended family members are not included with the TEC membership. For extended family members wishing to access Best Doctors, they can become Best Doctors members directly through Best Doctors. Applications can be found on the Best Doctors website.

Can I add my employees to my plan for a fee?

If TEC Canada members wish to offer their employees access to Best Doctors, they will need to contact Peter MacDonald, Best Doctors’ Business Development Manager, at (416) 775-2486 or pmacdonald@bestdoctors.com to arrange for membership for the employee group. It will be a separate membership than the TEC membership. Peter will be able to provide a quote to the TEC member based on the number of their employees.

How do I know if my condition qualifies for consideration by Best Doctors? Will there be a list of qualifying (or non-qualifying) conditions?

All medical conditions are covered, with the exception of mental, nervous and chronic pain conditions. Please feel free to contact Best Doctors with any questions you have about a diagnosis, treatment or general healthcare. Best Doctors’ Member Advocates will be able to determine which of our services best suit your needs. Call 1-877-419-BEST(2378).

What additional costs (if any) will be added to enquiries or searches?

There are no additional costs to use Best Doctors services. When you use the InterConsultation service, your medical records are collected on your behalf and at no cost to you. All pathology is retested, again at no cost to you. If however, you decide to travel to receive medical treatment, the costs associated with travel and lodging are your responsibility. Additionally, if you seek medical treatment outside of the country, expenses associated with the treatment are also your responsibility.

If after reviewing my file, it is found that other tests are required, would I be responsible for those costs?

Best Doctors does not cover the costs of medical treatment or testing. In most cases, the cost of additional tests are covered by your provincial healthcare system.

If I am required to visit a specialist, who pays for those costs?

Most specialist costs are covered by your provincial healthcare system, but it is always a good idea to confirm this. If a member visits a doctor who bills outside of the provincial health plan, Best Doctors does not cover these costs. Any expenses related to medical treatment, appointments, travel or lodging to get to the appointments or treatment are the responsibility of the member.

If I am required to travel for additional tests, am I responsible for these costs or is that part of the plan?

Travel expenses to receive medical treatment or for additional testing is the responsibility of the member.
